Nathan Cornwell

Dance

Nathan Cornwell is an independent dance artist and choreographer from England. Upon completing his vocational training at The English National Ballet School he went on to obtain a B.A. Honors at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. During his time there he worked with the Rambert Dance Company performing Itzik Galili’s A Linha Curva on their Comedy of Change UK tour.

Upon graduating he undertook a graduate apprenticeship with the Micheal Clark Company, performing Swamp as part of the Company’s come, been and gone UK tour. He was then invited to join BallettVorpommern in Germany. During his time with BallettVorpommern he performed works from choreographers such as Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo, Bryan Arias, Peter Svenzon, Robert Glumbek, Jochen Heckmann, Brigel Gjoka, Maura Morales, Ralf Dörnen, Sabra Johnson, and many more.

Nathan then went on to dance with Ballet Ireland as part of their Bold Moves program, performing Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16, Us by Zoë Ashe-Browne, Strokes Through The Tail by Marguerite Donlon, and Stepping Over by Filipe Portugal.

In addition to stage work, Nathan also danced in the Irish dance film Ballet Átha Cliath choreographed by Zoë Ashe-Browne which was shown at the Los Angeles Dance Shorts Film Festival.

Choreography

Nathan’s passion for developing his choreographic practice has lead him to create dance films and live performance pieces.

His first short dance film The Encounter was created in 2017 and was shown as part of the 24 Stunden Tanz – ein Tanzfest festival in Stralsund. He has since then created two more short dance films: Limbo, which was shown at the Ork_Kota Platform 2018 festival in Budapest, Hungary, STILL, which was a co-production with De-Da Productions, and Unaided a short independent film.

Nathan’s first stage work Psalm 118:6 premiered at Theater Vorpommern in 2018 as part of the Ballet Trust Benefit Evening in Greifswald, Germany. After this, he created Verflochten which premiered in 2018 at the 24 Stunden Tanz – ein Tanzfest festival in Stralsund, Germany. In early 2020 Nathan created a new short piece in collaboration with Dominic Harrison entitled Early Bird which premiered at Resolutions at The Place London. To which it received outstanding reviews.

In addition to his professional work, Nathan has also created many short pieces on Junior Companies in Germany and Ireland.
